Building the foundation

July was the month Pass the Chord stopped being a plan and started being an organization.

We built the front door

The website launched. We set up a proper contact inbox so anyone who wants to reach us has somewhere to write, and we opened accounts on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube so there’s a way to follow along as this grows.

We started building the team

An organization like this doesn’t run on one person. We reached out to students about leadership roles — the departments that will actually keep this going — and began interviewing applicants, which has been one of the most interesting parts so far. It turns out you learn a lot about someone by asking what they’d do when something goes wrong.

We also had our first conversation with a local music teacher about tutoring, through the volunteer form. Seeing the first real submission come through a form we built was a good day.

We started the paperwork

Becoming a registered nonprofit is not something a 13-year-old can do alone, so we introduced Pass the Chord to trusted adults who are helping us through the registration process. That work is underway now.

None of this is an instrument in a child’s hands yet. But it’s the scaffolding that makes that possible, and it all got built this month.
